The Little Cottage Bakery

Our Story

Growing up, my family didn’t bake very often. My mom only made dessert for special occasions and we didn’t really have any legendary family recipes that were passed down from generation to generation. All I knew was that I had a creative spirit and I REALLY liked dessert!

Summer of 2006, the local craft store held a sale on Wilton Cake Decorating Courses. I had seen ads for those classes before and had always thought what fun it would be to take a cake decorating class! Mom thought it would be a fun summer project and enrolled me in the first two classes. I immediately fell in love with it! I remember soaking it all in and thinking, “I wish I didn’t have to go back to school already. I want to keep doing this!”

A couple years later, my brother was looking into colleges and it made me wonder what I wanted to do in life. Who and what did I want to become? Author, teacher, journalist – these were some of the career choices I was considering. I remember talking to my mom about it one day and she asked me, “Why not open a bakery?” and I thought, “Huh…” The more I considered it, the more I wondered, “Can I actually do it? Can I open my own bakery? I think I can. I think I want to!”

I started baking more, testing recipes, and working at local bakeries around town. I got a business degree in Entrepreneurship and began doing custom orders for friends and family. This business has grown so much since then and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do what I love every single day!
